Good afternoon gentlemen.
I have a Model 8 in 30 and 35, as well as Model 14 in 32(baby of the family). I have been able to get all dies for 3 of them.
I have tried the Horndy 30 cal, 170 FP, the 35 cal 200 grn RN, and then going to use the 32 cal 170 grn FN. the powder i have been using is 4895, i am using a 1970 Speer Manual, # 8 for all my loading information.
I have read the RN or FN is the only way to go for these beauty's. But also have read that you can try other styles, other then the FN or the RN.
Has anyone else tried other styles of lead and powder and what are the results?
? CAL, grain weight of bullet and grain weight of powder and type of powder you used.

I tried reload with some 150gr Sierra SP bullets for my Model 8 in.30 Remington but the bullets were too long. when they were seated deep enough in the case to fit in the magazine the smaller curved part on the bullet was inside the case mouth. kinda looked like the nose of a Mig fighter. :o ??? :-[

i have been reloading over 40 years, and the longer i load, hunt and shoot the more i realize you don't need tricky stuff. i know pointed sp bullets are not tricky but in a rifle that was desined to use a flat nose bullet, just use that, they work and shoot perfect. the truth is in an old rifle like a model 8, 100 yds is about all you will be shooting any how. i kill deer with cast lead flat nose bullets in my 32 win. special, it is a marlin 336 and is is very accurate with them. i just posted on reloading for my 32 rem. in my model 8 with a speer FN about how accurate it is. also most match shooters use flat base bullets over boat tails, they are proven to be more accurate over the bt. at short distance, 200 yds. or so. any more i try to keep it simple.

Howdy, Know why the magazine tube has that spiral groove? THAT is pure genius! It allows pointed bullets to arrange themselves in the tube with the points against the rim ahead of it. These repeaters were designed to shoot spitzers, which gave them a leg up on those Winchester and Marlin repeaters. Your best source for reloading the Remington calibers is a Lyman manual from the 1950's, a #38, 39, or 40 manual. Some of the powders listed aren't available any more, but some powders seem to be eternal.
Good luck! Bitterroot Bob

Fastraver, I have an older post here on loading for the .30 Remington Model 8 using the Hornady 160-grain Flextip and 31 grains IMR 3031. Funny thing is I sold the Model 8 a couple of years ago, and just came home today with another one! So I will start with the same load, as it shot nicely out of my first .30 Remington.
