Has anyone run across a Standard Arms Model G with the pump handle made of grooved walnut instead of brass?

Yes, I have seen that. I think the Standard Arms Model "Camp" 50 caliber smoothbore came with a wooden pump handle.

The Camp Gun is a model M and all that I have seen except for one has a wood groved slide. I currently own 22 of these guns and maintain a list by make model and serial number. As of this time I have never seen a model G with a wood grip. However that does not mean it wasn't assembled by someone. As I have stated before there are two other serial number locations inside the reciever, if they do not match the one on the tang there is a strong possibility that it is assembled. There may actually be more assembled guns out there than ones built by Standard

tHERE ARE mODEL gS WITH A SMOTH WOD OPERAting handle. These are late Standard Arms Mfg Co asembled rifles from left over stock of Standard Arms after the Truste's Sale of September 1911. Standard Arms Mfg Co was new firm formed by the creditors of SAC and only asembled and sold rifles on hand and selling off rifles. This new firm developed the Camp Model and these are the only ones with barel marks of Standard Arms Mfg Co. Cartridge is not known for this gun however factory records show that 2 were made and sold betwen 192 and closing of the plant in 1914. Back to the question. There are few wood handle rifles encountered and al I have sen are smoth not groved as with the Camp gun. I am doing a bok on Smith Condit Arms Co and Standard Arms and welcome any information on owned guns. I shal also be at the Baltimore Gun Show this weekend if anyone ses this and is in the area. I shall be dispalying Standard Arms and Smith Condit Rifles. Enough of my vanity, except to say that I own the company names in Delaware. Thanks nd hope this helps if just a litle G.JF

Unsure if anyone is interested in this old thread. I have a Model G in 25 Rem. with wood slide. It also has a rear peep sight. I am preparing it for sale.

I have seen three wooden fore grip types 1) Upgraded wood generally also has a pistol grip stock 2) Camp gun generally has a groved forehandle 3) A restocked gun, two that i have seen the serial numbers do not match which I assume was an assembled gun from left over parts The sixth gun from the left is a restock. Wow, great Standard collection there! ^^^ 6th from the left - is that a factory buttstock?
Re; the wooden pump handle, is there a premium/deduction in value on a rifle so equiped?

Well it has been two and a half years since I started this thread and I finally pulled the subject rifle out of a closet and took pics of the wood fore-end. The rifle is serial number 8892 stamped on the lower tang and is Cal 30. I also separated the upper and lower receivers to check the internal serial numbers. I found the serial number 8892 in four other places: top front of the lower receiver, bottom front of the upper receiver, inside the bottom magazine cover, and on the takedown latch in the lower receiver. Haven't disassembled it further to look for more.

Since all of the numbers match I would think there is additional value if is a factory slide. I have seen slides like this with the metal palte on the camp gun.

The Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, MI has a deluxe Model G with pistol grip butt stock and a wooden forearm. Very nice gun but I prefer the funky brass.
