There is a Model 8 on Gunbroker (# 202829923) that has British proofs. The seller indicates that Britain, as well as France, bought a number of Model 8's for their aircrews. Implying of course that this might be one of them. It is my understanding that all purchases by France was in the 1914-1915 years and all were .35 caliber. I'm not aware of the details of British purchases. This gun is a .32 and is serial numbered in the 1919 range. I would guess that this gun has two stikes against it for WWI military useage. Any other opinions?

Maybe I should jump at the chance to buy it. It is most likely the rifle carried by Colonel Worgan!

Britain did purchase 120 Winchester Model 1907's in WW1. I have never come accross any records of Remington Model 8 's being purchased.

dear ghp45,in addition to lebels,i collect model 8s,one of which is my favorite rifle.i was in the uk in 1964,searching for english doubles that were very inexpensive at the time.in a small london shop, the owner said that they had a "YANK" rifle and would i be interested.out comes a grade 2 straight gripped checkered model 8 with birmingham proofs lyman flip-up rear sight and ball-detent swivels and sling. i made a good deal[less expensive than i could buy it in missouri] ,and added it to my shipping rosterto be sent home.i was 20 at the time and a avid deer&elk hunter and put th .35 to work that season.it has taken over 20 deer, elk, mose, and even antelope.the rifle was cased in an older browning a5 shotgun case.itreasure this rifle.research showed that the rifle was a 1930s/sent to england by remington for lend-lease/home guard during ww2,sold after the war to english capt.who used it one season in colonial africa, doing just as i did ,taking medium game.i have, over the years, had other rifles, even other mod 8s,but this rifle has something different about it.has never mis-fired ,never missed its mark, even on paper targets, still has open sights, and amazes the younger shooters that know nothing but ak's and 223's.or black guns.if it were a sword "excaliber" comes to mind. lebeldevil
