Just bought a model 81 in 300 savage cal. ser.#12669 , stamping on the barrel is (RJ). I once owned a model 8 in 35 cal. back in 1970. But sold it when I got out of the service. Wish I never did. Now I'am a member of a hunting club back up in the Adirondacks. It took some searching to fine a model 8 or 81. What I would like to know is the recoil the same as the 35 cal. I use to shoot 200 gr. cor-lok.

This is just my humble opinion. In my experience owning a Remington Model 81 in .300 Savage, the recoil with the .300 Savage cartridge is pretty stiff. I have two .35s and the recoil is not quite as bad with the .35 Remington cartridge. I must admit that I eventually traded off my .300 Savage for a .401 WSL. I've never been to NY state, but everything I hear, read and the pictures I see about the Adirondacks make it seem like a beautiful stretch of country. To me, the Remington 8 and 81 are rifles "made" for hunting in the Adirondacks. One day...one day...

That's a beauty! It looks like she was re-blued at some point. I considered doing that to my Model 8, but the old silver\grey look has grown on me.
Anyhow, welcome to the forum. There's a lot of good people and info here.
