I have this 30 Rem, not sure exact model, or much else. "8099" is stamped underneath receiver, along with "p" and an "s". All original, never reworked or restored. Was wondering if anyone could tell me model, date of production, and estimated value. Thank you pics can be seen here: www.remingtonsociety.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2540

You have a very nice looking Model 8 Remington Autoloading rifle. It may be a "C" grade. Pull off the forearm and look inside the relief hole. If there is a number "3" or "C" stamped on the inside of the stock or forearms wood, then you have a very righteous "C" grade gun. The checkering you have on your rifle looks correct for a "C". With a serial number of 8099, your gun shipped from the factory in 1908. Which fits also because your gun does not have the triangular side spring on either side of the magazine. You have a Williams FP-SSM peep sight. I think the "p" and "s" markings were assemblers and fitters markings. The wood looks gorgeous, particularly the buttstock. It's harder to tell about the forearm from the pictures provided. It's also hard to tell the amount of original blue left and whether it has aged to a patina or not. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but handling and seeing in person is worth a thousand pictures. Because of that, it's hard to put an accurate valuation on your gun. 13 years ago I had an advanced collector tell me he was seeing them for nearly $1K. I know I have a "C" grade gun that I would not let go for less than $1000. I think the very bottom for a nice "C" grade is probably twice what a nice standard grade .30 Remington rifle would bring. So depending on percentage of original finish left, $750 to $1300. You other guys pitch in here and share the tribal wisdom with shooter81.

Walt, when did they start using the triangular side spring on the mag? I think mine does have one but it is in the 10xxx range for serial number.
I won't dare to pretend I know much about your rifle other than the obvious Josh. A very nice example you have there.
Is it stamped 30 Rem or 30-30Rem on the barrel?

Shooter81,
That is a beautiful Model 8 rifle you have! I really like the peep sight. What kind is it?
