I'll have dies by Saturday from Grafs. Got brass from Huntingtons and a box of Hornady 160-grain FTX flex-tips that I think should be a good hunting bullet in the Model 8. I will start with 3031. Once thing I noticed is that the current R-P brass will not fit in my RCBS No. 19 shell holder. Anyone else have shellholder issues with the .25, .30 or .32 Remingtons?

Good for you. I'm still in the stone age with my little Lee Loader hand loader set-up. So I do not have any good information on the RCBS shell holder issue. But, I do use 3031 powder and I may check into the Hornady 160 gr FTX bullets. Keep us posted. Good Luck with you reloading endeavor.

Got the dies, and will load today -- and hopefully range test. I'm going with 31 grains IMR 3031, CCI 200, R-P brass and the Hornady 160-grain .308 FTX flex tip bullet. Load data is based on Ken Waters' Pet Loads article and the Lyman 46 manual. One thing I have found right off, is that the FTX bullet tip wants to flex and complicate final seating depth using the seater plug supplied with the RCBS dies, which is better matched to a Nosler BT.

Well, here is the results of the range testing today. I shot the target at 50 yards from a rest. This was my first outing with my circa 1909 Model 8, and I wasn't sure what to expect since I discovered a ring in the barrel about an inch from the muzzle. Guess I needn't have worried. The load was 31.0 grains IMR 3031 in R-P brass, CCI 200 primer and the Hornady 160-grain Flex-Tip bullet. Chronograph showed a high of 2236 fps, low of 2196, ES of 40 and average of 2216. It ought to do the job on deer, I think.

Could anyone tell me the "trim to length" and also the oal for the .30 Remington?
30 gr of IMR 4064 and a 150 gr Hornady round nose interlock...this load was just used by my friend to bag a nice 6 point Adirondack whitetail in a Remington model 14.
Thanks...

Trim length should be close to the 30-30. I have info at home I can look up later. If you have a copy of Cartridges of the world this info in in a table in the back of that book.

tbury,
I only have a lyman manual that doesn't include the .30 rem. I really need to pick up a more comprehensive manual. Thanks for any info you can supply.

The trim length for the .30 rem. is 2.040 and the max. with bullet seated is 2.525, and I think a lyman # 15 shellholder will solve the problem your cases. You can use 30-30 win cases by cytting off the rim and cleaning up the extractor groove ,then full lenght size the case. you can also use 30-30 loading data without any problems.
