Hello all. Tim here in Michigan. Retired Coast Guard CWO4 (30 years). Confirmed gun (insert word to best describe gun addict). Over 100 guns in the safes. Since Saturday acquired 3 new ones - S&W Model 1917 Hand Ejector .45 auto-rim (1937 Brazilian Contract), Colt Woodsman Sport (3rd Series), and what brought me here - a Remington Model 81 Woodsman in .300 Savage. Mounted on it (on a Paul Jaeger scope mount) is a Lyman Alaskan 2.5 Power Scope. I had a store credit (from a knife of mine they sold) so I got the rifle for $172 plus tax...oh yeah, I forgot; there's a leather sling attached too... I have a Model 8 in .35 Remington that when I took it to the range the first time I put 5 rounds in 3" at 100 yards. It came with a Weaver K3 scope (post and wire). Unfortunately someone cut the rear stock off and spliced different wood on it. Here's a photo; I'll shoot some pictures of the 81 and post as well. The Model 81 had been on the rack for about a year; started at $500. I think I did ok...(I was into the knife for $140). Range report to follow....

Welcome to the forum cwo4uscgret! Great looking model 8, I like the patriotic background added. Did you use photoshop or is that a natural background?
Do you collect mostly Remingtons?

81 - that's a posterboard that I picked up to use for photos. I buy, sell, and trade custom knives so I experiment with different backdrops.
Ah yes, the Model 8...just love that stock work, if only it could talk...
My "collection" of guns is as eclectic as my knives. I buy primarily for shooting; I like 1911s; and of the 12 I have 6 are Colt. My Remingtons are two 870 twelve gauges (one Marine Magnum), a 1930s .22 Bolt action, a Model 700 Tactical Varmit .223 (triangular barrel), and the Model 8 and 81. I'll get a photo of the .22 and the 81 up a bit later...
forgot about two: Mohawk 10C (came with a Weaver V4 Scope) and the vintage .22 bolt action is a model 34 from around 1936.

Welcome to the forum. I really like your taste in firearms. The Colt Woodsman is still on my short list of pistols I must have. I shoot a Remington Model 81 in 300 Savage. S&W revolvers are my main "weakness" - I love those!
