I was given a beautiful Model 8 by my father in law a couple of months ago and after a few problems getting it apart for cleaning and reassembled I took it to the range to test fire and had a problem... MISFIRE. 5 out of 15 rounds failed to fire. I was using store bought Remington 35 ammo as I don't reload, but the other 10 rounds shot great (1/2" high, dead center @ 50 yds). Could it just be the firing pin? The gun was used regularly by my father-in-laws' father-in-law, so maybe it is just worn? Despite the problems on the range I still took it to the deer lease last weekend and killed a nice mature doe with a single shot @ about 110 yds (the shot was a little high and right, but that was due to my position and the wind, not the gun). I would like to find a good tang sight if anyone knows where to find one so that my next foray is easier on my eyes. Any info from any quarter is very much appreciated!

Last I checked, there were two tang mounted peep sights for sale on eBay.

How about a pic of your deer and the rifle. I love to see any hunting pics and better yet ones that feature a vintage rifle!

As far as the firing pin is concerned, I have heard of this problem from others although have not had it occur personally. I hear that due to hand fitted tolerances, not all firing pins will work properly in all rifles. I would try a different brand of ammo first or even do some handloads, and find out if your rifle likes other brands of primers. If the problem persists with other ammo types then do some measuring and comparing to other firing pins as, some guys keep extras on hand and may be able to compare notes. I personally have several model 8's and an 81 each with variances in firing pin types although I have not measured fit tolerances since I had no reason to so far.
