Hello, This forum was just brought to my attention and I joined right away. I call myself "303mike" and let me admit that's because of my love for the .303 Savage. Actually I admire most of the rifles introduced from about 1900 up to WWll so the Remington pumps and autoloaders fit right in. And I got my first deer, many years ago, with a Model 81 in .300 Savage. The Model 81 I have now is my only centerfire autoloader but it still gets some exercise. Now I'll see about doing more reading than talking. 303mike

303mike,
Welcome to the forum. From what you have written, you'll fit right in with this group of guys. I have a Model 81 in 300 Savage. She hasn't made meat yet, but I hope to correct that this season.

Welcome Mike! What kind of 303 do you have?
I was given an 1899C, DOM 1907 in 303. The bore was rotten so I hade it bored. Before you scalp me for doing that it was a supreme grey rat as the boys at the campfire would say, stock was butchered etc...... It is now a 38-55, kinda and I hope to finish the project some day. Enjoy the forum! Noel

Noel, My favoite is a 99G in .303 Savage from 1928. I also have others but the G gets taken out more than the rest. Let me say that I also have an earlier 1899 Saddle Gun, from about 1909 in .38-55. I took a fine blacktail in Oregon with that rifle only 25 years ago... Hey, a .38-55 is a fine choice. Get it finished, for sure. Mike

Welcome mike, I have a 60s vintage 99E (economy) in .308 Win that was my first New purchased center fire. I have an 81 in 35 rem and 8s in 25 rem and 30 rem. I would really love a 99 in 250 savage.

A SRC in 38-55! WOW, that can't be all that common. I have a weak spot for the half octagon barrel and was very lucky to get this C even if it was in such bad shape. There is a dent in the mag wall of the receiver and the lever boss nees to be sprung a bit to lock up tight. Then a set of stocks....... it has the special order shotgun butt. THe list goes on and I think I will have quite a time getting it all done. Others keep getting in the way but it really begs to chase black bears.
Grampa has an R in 308 Win. He told me it was a 400xxx serial. As you likely know those are rare as all get out, turned out it was just a rough stamping. He also had one in 300 Savage.
My Great Uncle's each had SRC's or carbines of some form, each were 303 Savage as well. Sadly they are long gone like 99% of the other homestead guns.
Dave, that 250 will be a great gun to find. If you locate one buy it fast, ones with condition don't stay for sale like they did ten years ago! Mind you it is just like our little Remingtons right.
