A freind brought his Woodsmaster S/N 516** over to sight it in. It jammed, locked and thingyed. I cleared it and have it apart. Nothing broken inside, thank goodness. I want to be sure to reassemble it correctly for him. Does anybody have a schematic they can e-mail to me. Thanks.

There maybe one on the web, but I don't mind scanning in a schematic. I bought several manuals trying to stay cheap and they were not a good investment. Finally, I broke down and paid the big bucks for Henwoods book, it has been worth every penny, rarely does a week go by I don't use it - very detailed, although a little hard to justify for one gun but a very good read regardless. That said, PM my your email address (as the stuff goes through a lot better via email then the forums "pics/scans" process), I'll send it, hope it will give you enough info. A note: since the barrel recoils the full length of the receiver, often it is part of the problem via the spring and collars in the sleeve, especially if the gun has been setting. Of my several, two appeared to have been left muzzle down in a 5 gal bucket of water over the winter (likely they were just used in wet conditions and forgotten) - one worked the other didn't, I only took the barrels apart cleaned them and all is well. These are very sturdy guns that will take a lot of abuse, regardless of their tremendous number of parts. I'm sure you may have already noticed that the barrel muzzle has some very unusual notches, holes, etc., they need to have a special tool(s) and be disassembled and assembled in a specific order. Any attempt to remove the nut, washer, etc. at the muzzle end by "clamping" will be counter productive in getting them off let alone what that will do to the gun. Several guys on the forum have come up w/ creative tools to remove them, I and a friend have made the perfect tool for this but have not yet been able to locate a source for manufacturing them - reasonably! Others have poured WD-40, Kroils, or into the barrel and let it stand up (off the gun) and drained a lot of gunk out.

The Great Remington 8 and model 81 Autoloading Rifles by John Henwood. It runs about $50 from Amazon.com.
