A few questions comments.
1. I cut my brass from 414 SuperMag, i havent cut the extractor groove as i have read several posts maybe here that said the groove was more than adequate as it is. Dry cycling my brass is no problem, but fired brass is a different story so the jury is out.
2. I slugged the barrel and it measures 0.406-407 so i really dont feel too concerned about shooting 41 mag cast bullets in it but i really want to run the hornady XTP 41 magnum bullet, i will order a sizer to take these down to 0.406 of make one.
3. IMR 4227 seems to be the go to powder and thats fine by me I have plenty of it and always will. I loaded pressure ladders from 26 gr t0 31 gr with a 200 grain copper plated 406 i got from grafs but ultimately i want to run jackected softpoints. I saw a comment on one thread about running the .41 212 hornady @ 2000. Any experience related to the XTP or a similar hunting bullet would be appreciated. I know hornady says max speed at impact should be 1500 FPS, but i bet that bullet is still a pretty good short range choice for hogs etc.
4. Learned a lesson. DONOT cut the rim of a 414SM yntil you trim to lenghth if you expect to use your RCBS case prep center. The silly little jaws just wont hold the cut down rim.
5. I have seen some questions concerning cutting the rim on the forum so i included pictures of my set uo. I clamped an angled cutting tool to the press table so that all i had to do was cuck the case and pule the handle down and back up slow and hit the rim with 400 grit. the case usually fell out in my had. the keyless chuck didnt mark the brass at all. the little steel stub in the case is just to keep the cases in the same place in the chuck. This thing once set up repeated perfectly for 75 cases. nice square parrellel cuts.
