I finally installed a new firing pin in the Model 8 in .35 Rem that I purchased a few months ago. I bought it disassembled and with a broken firing pin as the previous owner had ordered one which came in as a Marlin lever gun pin. He assumed that a pin wasn't available and had trouble remembering how to reassemble it. I was very tickled to get it as it is in super condition. I gotta thank Mitch (Heydad) for selling me a correct firing pin and am happy to report it is a good shooter. I was happy that the new pin works like a champ as I have heard of others having issues upon installing a new one due to hand fitted dimensional differences. I did install a Lyman tang sight but will need a taller front sight to make it work. Anyone know of any options there for a taller front bead? If not I will put the tang sight on my .25 and hope it works without any mods necessary. I've got an 81 in .35 with a Marbles tang sight that works very well and another model 8 in .35 with the stock sight and will use the Lyman tang sight on one of them. Anyways just wanted to report the results of my first time on the range with my newest of the four. I almost forgot to mention I loaded all the ammo for the day on the range and it worked very well. 34.3 gr of H4895 with Federal 210 primer and 200 gr Hornady round nose soft point in Remington brass. It was the first time I have loaded .35 ammo and need to go round up a big old bear to thump with it. All the bears I have seen so far this year have been glorified cubs and those during my archery elk hunt so I think a dedicated bear hunt may be in order soon. Besides I have a 4 digit old model Super Blackhawk itchin to be carried into the woods and I just finally got some gun leather for it. With the .35 Remington they make a great pair of bear stoppers!!!
