Well, I went to the Austin gun show yesterday while I was in town visiting my "scholar in residence". Raced through the place because time was short. Saw two Remington Autoloaders, a Model 81 and a Model 8 with a scope. Both vastly overpriced in my opinion. $900+ for the Model 81 and $800 + for the 8 with a scope. Neither warranted such a high valuation. Maybe Pack's suggestion the other day that prices are going up on these Model 8s and 81s has merit....., we will see. I hope it is just a blip in the prices because of the movie "Public Enemies". We all know prices are going up, but to double? One reason I got interested in these in the first place was because they were "affordable". Oh well, you really shouldn't gripe about success, too much.
I did pick up an older 1907 .351 shooter for $300 from a really nice fellow. A thought, (now people, these are few and far between...) I need to have cards made up for the forum that I can hand out to people I run in to and get them on the board. This guy said he had 5 WSLs, one of which was a 1905 converted to fire .30 Carbine ammo. I thought that was interesting. He was looking for a .401. I'll try to post more about the new .351 WSL later in the "new acquisitions" section.
I also saw a decent Star Model 1921 pistol for $300 that I drooled over and made the purchase of the M-1907 difficult. That seller was interested in my 7.63mm Star Model A.

I think someone(s) were hoping to cash in on the movie, those prices were way-out of sight even for CA and the BIG Show in Reno where they always go for more.
An example is AA #9350415, it is put up by a local shop, a .300 Sav w/ scope that I could have had in Aug. for their starting price on AA $395. But, I already have 2-300Sav, I would have had to use it to keep warm this winter in my tee-pee. Ok , okay really I was headed to DC for the Capital Tea Party and saving my nickels - I knew you guys wouldn't buy my excuse about already having two.
Anyway, I did not look at it with the "buying eye". If any ones is interested, I'll go down and check it out, especially the scope. It's in their backroom, not on the sales floor but they know me. I'm sure Dan would let me take more pixs if needed. I bought my first one there and several other shooting irons, you can trust what they have to say.
Others on AA #93357633, #9355541, and another on w/ removable mags #9360280 - too bad it has all that rust/pitting.
OK to move this to wherever you think it should be, wanted to respond to your Show prices. Plus get back on the forum, rumors of my demise were only slightly exaggerated. This time I hope I really do have things turned around.
