Semiautomatic fanboy here, especially like when they are used in westerns!
My handle comes from history's first assault rifle, the Avtomat Federov of 1916.

Nice to have you aboard avtomat1916. I think Federov's (sp?) automat is a fascinating firearm. Historically significant as the first "assault rifle". I've seen quit a few pictures lately of the avtomat, thanks to the internet, but if you have anything to share which you think is important, please do post that information or pictures. Hey, I just like guns. I have an interest in Russian hunting rifles and muskets and always wondered if some of the avtomat's would up in Siberia after the revolution. Never heard of such a thing. Hope you enjoy the time you spend here. Regards, Walt

what if the Federov had encountered the .25 Remington cartridge, while designing the Avtomat?

That's very interesting to contemplate. .25 Remington is such a modern looking cartridge IMHO. But 6.5 Japanese is a good looking cartridge too! I think .25 Remington in the Federov would have been a good fit.
