I found a photo of the modified 1907 being used in the movie - very cool with the vertical forearm and compensator! This was also put in the references section because I didn't know which would be more appropriate.

Thanks for the post! Found it in a websearch. I'm going to see this movie, because if they put enough effort toward authenticity into it to have a 1907 .351SL in the movie, they've done their homework.

Unfortunately, you really have to look hard to see the rifle - at the Little Bohemia shootout and at a bank robbery toward the end. I need to see the movie again because there is so much going on that I know I missed a lot.

I've seen it (twice). The storyline is not historically accurate, but they went to great pains to make most scenes as authentic as possible. Instead of just giving everyone Thompsons and 1911s, they had a great variety of vintage weapons. If you look closely enough, you can catch 97s, Remington 8s and 11s, and a couple of semi autos converted to machineguns--the Winchester SLR and a Colt .38 Super. I recommend you check out the IMFDB website on PUBLIC ENEMIES before you go so that you know what to look for and when--if you blink you will miss some of these!

Because of their 'Dillinger diligence', I'll be buying this movie.
