I recently got a Model 81 in an estate sell. The finish has greyed out and someone buggered the stock to put on a recoil pad. The gun is chambered for .35 Rem. It has a low serial number, #144. Given its condition does it have any collectors value? I will try to attach a picture later.

The low serial number does not really give it collector value since the 81 was an update of the model 8. Yours dates to about 1936. If the stock was cut for the recoil pad that also kills collector value. The up side is you have a nice hunting gun in a caliber that is still loaded commercially. My 81 in 35 rem shoots extremely well. 100 yds standing.
