That is just too weird looking. How would a thing like that work...if it would work at all. I know it's one of Carbine Williams experiments. There was another photo of a carbine version of the Model 8 floating about earlier.

very ingenious design. I posted some more pictures of this rifle on Packmule's site under "Rem. 8 Carbine" if y'all want to see more angles.
You'll notice the rifle has no barrel lock screw, and I'm sure no internal barrel lock...don't really need one when the barrel isn't recoiling! I think it's basically the same concept as the Colt 1911 .22LR ACE pistols, i'd love to get my hands on it.
Thanks for posting, cool stuff!

If the barrel isn't recoiling, how's that thing work then? The bolt is not locked to the barrel in the regular long recoil fashion?

I hadn't seen it before (at least I don't remember it ). It is pretty neat.

hopefully some gunsmiths will chime in here!
From my understanding, and i'm sure it's somewhat inaccurate, there is a small chamber/piston that accelerates rearward with the cartridge against the bolt. The barrel is stationary. I've heard this concept is sometimes called an accelerated blowback action but don't hold me to it.

Another neat thing is the front sight. Anyone care to mention all the places we've since seen it used?

Gotta like both hooded front ramp sights and chrome plating!
