Hello.
I just inherited my grandpa's Model 8 (.35 Rem caliber). My dad shipped it to me and I received it today. It's in great shape, but I'm wanting to learn more about it. Google brought me here.
Hope to talk to everyone soon.

Welcome to the Vintage Semi Auto Sporting Rifles Forum. I hope you enjoy your time spent here talking to us about one of our favorite types of firearms. We always like to see pictures of your model 8s (and 81s), so please feel free to post pictures. What's the serial number on your gun? Does it have a two or three letter code on the left side of the barrel up where it joins the receiver? Don't forget to check out our sister website www.thegreatmodel8.net/

Thanks for the welcome. Here she is. I've been cleaning it up, but really it's been well taken care of and doesn't have much residue inside and no rust outside. No cracks in the wood either. It's a beautiful gun. To answer your questions the serial is 149xx. I don't see any letter code on the barrel. Should it be on top or could it be under the grip? Now I just need dry Saturday and I'll be going to the range to try her out.

That early of a gun probably won't have a date code. I think they started that in the early 20's. Good looking 8. Please check out the other site mentioned. It's is focused on the 8 and 81 and we would love to have your information there also.

Yes....nice gun... I own it's twin. Except mines in .30 and is from 1919, a little younger than yours. Love to shoot it.

Gramps35,
Welcome to the forum. She is indeed a fine looking rifle! The fact that the rifle belonged to your grandfather makes it even more special.

The fact that the rifle belonged to your grandfather makes it even more special. My grandpa went so far as to engrave his old driver's license number on it. It's inconspicuous, so it doesn't detract from the looks. From the stories I've heard, this gun has taken plenty of deer (and a few bear and elk) in it's time. I'm planning on taking my first deer with it just to say three generations have.

I'll bet you do get that deer with your Model 8. That will certainly be a fine day!
I have an old Winchester 16 ga. Model 370 shotgun that belonged to my grandfather. It is an inexpensive version of the Winchester Model 37 single shot shotgun. The 370 was made in Canada. I take the old girl out once or twice a year on a squirrel hunt just to honor the man who owned it. I remember seeing this shotgun hanging in the rack near the fireplace in his home when I was a kid. To me, this gun is priceless.
