coda,
I have seen 2 Remington model 8's with this same detachable magazine design. It's obviously aftermarket and I do not know who performed the conversion but they are well done...someone did quite a bit of work on the rear of that magazine and trigger plate. They're quite unique!
How long have you had the rifle? Is there any history behind it?

Thank's. The history is oral, and therefore, un-documented, but still rather fun. It came from a friend who's father was a St. Paul, MN motorcycle cop from the mid 20's . he retired in the late 50's, and gave the gun to her along with his S&W revolver (which she kept). He acquired the #81 in the mid 30's. Most people don't think of St. Paul Minn. and crime, but the city was a noterious Chicago Mob town. The mobsters were in cahouts with the chief of police, and in fact, had a deal worked out that they were welcome as long as they didn't kill, kidnap, or rob the locals, and 'paid' due respect to the Blue. So, back to the gun. She does'nt remember the details, but belives he got it from a raid. Fun, huh?
