There is a Winchester '07 "Police" Model on the "Collectors Firearms" website. It appears to be correct. Too bad it's advertised as being re-blued. I think the price is way over the top, but I've never seen another for sale. Gotta love that bayonet! If anyone has other pictures of this variant, please post them. I'm looking to purchase one of these guns for my collection, and would like to get all the info I can on them. Thanks.

Hi, I will certainly post some photos, but I'm away from my computer for the next week. I'll try to remember for later.

I found another 1907 Police Rifle, complete with sling and bayonet. Seller states it's in 95+% condition, and was an FBI gun. It is not marked with any agency's name, and has no provenance. He is asking $5800. I think it is way too much, but I'm no expert. Does anyone own one of these? Can anyone give me a ballpark value on them? You guys came through for me with the 81 Police Gun, so I value your opinion. Thanks

I'm not knowledgeable about 1907's, even though I own one. I learned a lot (incl. that some were modded for full-auto) from the Wikipedia page. My rifle (unlike Grandpa's, which had the 5-rd mag and was mfd. approx. 1915), was a Sheriff's Dept. weapon and has the 10-rd mags. No provision for bayonet; no sling swivels; had standard sights, but I put a Lyman tang sight on it. Mfd. 1940. So despite having been a law enforcement rifle its whole previous life, mine isn't a Police Rifle--is what I'm getting from your thread.

Semantics - Winchester produced the slightly different Model 1907, marketted in factory literature as the "Police Rifle", starting in 1937. The barrel should be specially tapered to measure 5/8" at the muzzle so as to allow a bayonet mount to slide on. The mount comes with an integral front sight. The rear sight is a nonadjustable sight mounted in a dovetail cut 2 3/8" closer to the receiver. My information comes from Bill West's 1964 book "Winchester for Over a Century."
So there are police-used Model 1907s and "Police Model" 1907's.
Of course, photos/issue papers/receipts/whatever that provides provenance makes it a piece of history. Stories can be made up/forgetten/changed over time and most any police department markings can be faked. That's why there's the high price/rarity premium of the "Police Model" 1907's- they are obviously different from commercial 1907s and probably cannot be easily faked.
PS. I wrote most of the 1907's Wikipedia page...

[starting with the p.s.] Then I and all '07 owners interested in the weapon's history owe you a considerable debt. Thanks!
I'll check my rifle for the indications cited. If I ever finish unpacking some boxes in the basement, I might find my Madaus book..
For provenance on mine, I guess I'll have to get back with gunbroker.com (still get the newsletter). The Lake County MT Sheriff's Dept. sold this rifle (to me) via gunbroker.

That's some good provenance if you get the documents together. Only possible thing better would be if you had a copy of their inventory ledger with serial number or a letter stating that the Department used the rifle/had the rifle in their armory rack for use.

Hi! I'm new here and new to the Model 07, but find it an interesting and truely forgotten rifle when I try to research it. Have a question, if anyone knows the answer. At some point, I don't know if it was in 1934 or not, the slim stocked 07 seemed to have been abandoned in favor of the full stocks that were put on the "police model". In looking at 07's made from around the late thirties and early forties, All of the 07's I see for sale have the fuller stocks on them. The sling hardware could be ordered for any of the rifles, and I just don't see any basic difference in the later rifles. Any comments?
