Hey Pack....IMHO that feels way too high to me. How do you know it's got police provenance? Is that just the sellers story? Or is it just a later 1950s model gun with the curved part on the end of the action bar and a large magazine release button? 5 round or 10 round or aftermarket magazine.

"have the prices run away on these also". I would say, yes. But you should be able to find a better price than that.

Little thing about the 07's - police/prison/border patrol-used rifles are out there. Sometimes they have cryptic numbers and/or department stamps, but how easily faked are those? Because of the wide variety of markings you may find, I would say any rifle without provenance but with the correct characteristics may be a "police type" but not "police-used."
Example: you find a rifle stamped "Police Property" or "NYSP" - it certainly may be a police-used rifle, but it could just as easily be an hour's work with a letter punch set maybe followed by a cold-blue touch-up. No reason to pay a premium for it (above average price) without provenance. Of course, the catalogued "Police Rifle" variant of the Model 1907 is a whole other animal.
