BROWNING'S PATENTS I'm going to assume that most here have seen something similar to this stamped into one or more of their favorite firearms. Have you ever wondered just what was in that patent? Well, I have... If anyone is interested, I have a complete list of all 126 of JMB's U.S. patents. A couple of years ago, I assigned myself the daunting task of identifying them and merely making a list. Somehow this transformed itself into actually obtaining copies and collecting them for my own study. Printed and placed in page-protecting sleeves, they now occupy five rather large binders. They are my "Magnificent Obsession". The patents themselves contain a wealth of information. They contain detailed line-drawings showing just how all the component parts fit together, precise descriptions of just how the whole thing was designed to function, and lastly what it was that was worthy of being patented. They are a real opportunity to catch a glimpse into the mind of JMB. With the patent number in hand, simply type or paste it in the box at this address: patft.uspto.gov/netahtml/PTO/srchnum.htmYou will need a .TIFF viewer (there's a free downloadable viewer available from the site). It can be a bit difficult to locate, so here's the link: patft.uspto.gov/help/images.htm If your computer is of recent vintage, chances are you've probably already got one. Anyhoo, if you're interested just let me know. Jim

Just imagine- JMB designed and built his firearms before the day of "smart" machining centers and CAD programs on computers. Simply amazing! I'm going to look into the information you provided links for. Thanks for the info!

And let's not forget, JMB also took an active part in designing a few cartridges, too. Including, but not limited to: Pistol: .25 A.C.P., .32 A.C.P., .38 A.C.P., .380 A.C.P., .45 A.C.P. Rifle: .35 Remington Machine Gun: .50 Browning
Perhaps he didn't 'invent' all these cartridges, but he certainly built the first firearms ever chambered for them! I never cease to be amazed.
Let me know which firearm(s) you're interested in, and I'll be glad to get you the patent numbers.
Jim
