Howdy, I’m newer to this page and wanted to give a quick hello to everyone. I own a few different vintage semi auto rifles. One is actually the first gun I ever bought on my own once I was old enough. A Remington model 8 in .35 REM, one of my favorite cartridges of all time. I was passed down a Winchester model 1907 in the .351 WSL, I believe it was a “police issue” model with the steel butt, beefier foreend and thicker rear stock. After getting that gun I searched for a model 1910 for kind of a matched set. It unfortunately was drilled and tapped for a scope base, but it doesn’t matter to me. So now I have two Winchesters siblings in different calibers and the Remington auto loader.
Reason I joined the forum here was to seek info on brass case modification for the .401 and .351 I am itching to shoot. I have been buying .351 WSL mags off eBay when I can find them for reasonable prices. Got some brass and lead in the mail so I can peel off a few rounds at the range. I can upload pics of the rifles once I'm back home.

Are you looking for suggestions on brass, loads, etc? I can tell you what works for me if you need help. For my 35 WSL I use .38 Special brass. For my 351 WSL I use .357 brass. For my 401 I use 414 Super Mag brass.

Went to the national fur trappers convention in Escanaba, MI over the weekend and by sheer chance was able to buy a full box of 20 factory .401 WSL loads. At some point the box was wrapped in cellophane. I had to crack it open to make sure it wasn’t stuffed full of lead split shot and short pencils or something. I’m pretty stoked. Now the big question. Do I dare shoot the factory loads?

I use .357 MAG brass. I tried .357 MAX but the case mouths kept getting dented and damaged during ejection. That doesn't happen in my rifle with the shorter .357 MAG brass. I don't cut an extractor groove in the brass. I reduce the rim using a file and drill press to .408” (or close to that). I use a 38/357 sizing die. Then I push the empty case into a 9mm crimp die to the length of bullet (good case neck tenson) then expand the case mouth slightly. Small rifle primer. IMR 4227 17 grs. .352 cast bullet (Accurate Mold). Seat with .38/.357 seating die Crimp with .38/.357 seating die
Would I shoot the vintage factory rounds? They seem kinda rare, though I do shoot some .32WSL factory rounds that I have.
I won't shoot .351 rounds available online. I bought a box once and for the heck of it, pulled the bullets and measured some powder charges. They varied from 17 grs to about 21 grs. No thanks.
