Obviously I've recently acquired an 81, 300 savage, and I have several questions about it.
Mostly I'm wondering if the small flip-up rear sight is a stock part it is unmarked with a white diamond for sight aid and the front is a typical rifle style with brass bead marked marble sheard.
I've been trying to identify what type of scope mount was used as the receiver is tapped for two rows of 3 screws 1.5 inches apart with .5 inch between rows, the lower being on the flat and the upper on the radius.
Also it doesn't cycle. It's pretty accurate but won't recoil enough to even try to extract a shell. I've torn down and cleaned and lubricated everything but the barrel without a change. I can push the bolt back with a cleaning rod until the barrel unlocks and the bolt is captured so I suspect the larger part of the issue is with the ammo. The only 300 savage my local stores carry is hornady 150gr sst.

The flip up rear sight is not stock. Many 8s and 81s I see with receiver sights also have a flip up rear sight mounted in the usual place on the barrel jacket. I doubt your cycling problem is the ammo. With so many things moving on the Autoloader when fired, any one thing slightly out of adjustment can result in a failure.
