Ive got a little bit of a dilema on my hands. Ran across a 90+% 81 in 300 Savage. Asking price is $350.00 which I normally wouldn't even blink at, and all original except a newer aftermarket rear sight. The sight doesn't bother me at all as I can install a blank and put on a tang sight. My dilema is this. A 300 Savage is far superior to a 35 Remington ballistically but it will be impossible to take advantage of this without a scope installed. I already have three original 35 Remingtons that I am using with open sights and I always wanted a 300 Savage but with a scope installed so I can get at least 300 yards out of the thing. I refuse to drill and tap an original and I don't want to pay the $350.00 for a drilled one when I can get an original for that. I know it is a good problem to have but in todays economy what is the real market value of a 90+% model 81 in 300? Also what kind of accuracy can be expected from this thing if it did have a scope installed? Help needed and fast before the thing gets away.

90+% Remington Model 81s in .300 Savage are not rare. If I can contemplate buying a 90+% Remington 81 in .35 or .30 so I can mount a Boone Saturn scope, I think it is quite reasonable to buy a 90+% Remington 81 in .300 and mount a scope on it. The perfect situation would be to find a 90+% Remington 81 in .300 Savage which has already been tapped and mount your scope on it. Good Luck!
I wouldn't let a 90+% Remington 81 in .300 Savage for $350 get a way in any event.

Are there any current scope mounts that work well on this rifle, because if I do buy it and drill it I want to make sure it is done perfectly to allow proper use and functionality?

kirk, in my humble opinion I think the Weaver #4 or the Williams model SM side mounts are the best. Both can be found on ebay from time to time. Weaver mount (it's a two piece)Williams mount...
