Hi to all,
Well, looks like I just found a great web site to hang out at and I'm glad to see that there are so many other obscure Remington afficionados out there! I got my first Model 8 (.35 Rem, made in 1922) about 15 years ago while living in WA. I met the secretary of the Remington Society at a gun show behind a table full of Model 8s, ended up buying a nice gun and an autographed copy of Henwood's book from him, and then it was off to the range and out chasing deer. As a side note, when I picked my rifle up at his house (he's a big collector), he let me check out some of his F or premier grades, that really made my mouth water. There was even a fully engraved one presented to Captain Harry S. Truman! Anyway, since then there's a lot to be said about hunting with the Model 8 with open sights versus grabbing one of the fancy modern contraptions out of the gun safe. I'll say one thing, though, mine has one of the curved steel buttplates and it kicks about as much as my .30-06...just adds to the fun. I also had my grandfathers .35 Model 141 for years, A1 condition and you could drive tacks with that rifle. After hoarding it for years, chasing moose and shooting a deer with it with some of Grandpa's original ammo, I finally passed it on to one of my young cousins, to keep it in the family. Anyway, enough rambling. Nice to meet you guys and I enjoy looking through the site. Keep shootin' those 8s and 81s and good luck hunting this season! I just moved here to VA and deer and bear season starts next month, so I'm looking forward to chasin' the wee beasties here in my new stompin' grounds!
