Ok, are the magazines supposed to hold 5 rounds, or is it a 4+1 set up? I can only get 4 in there, then the fifth round is loaded directly into the chamber. Also, it is hard for me to load the cartridges straight down into the magazine the way I would with a stripper clip. I have found that it is easier for me to push them down in the middle of the magazine and then slid them back under the feed lips. Does anybody else run into this problem, or do I have a gun with "Personality"? And finally, does anybody know where I can find some stripper clips in .35 Rem or .300 for less than the cost of a rifle? Will regular stipper clips work? I have lots of them for similar rounds with the same case head size (read: military mauser/springfield), but I have never bothered to try them out. Have any of you guys?

.35 and .300= 4 rounds .25, 30 and 32 = 5 rounds
That's the same way I load them by hand into the magazine. I use the cartridge to push down in the middle of the magazine follower and then slide the base of the cartridge back and lay the cartridge down in the magazine. I don't use clips to load the gun. Remington clips are getting scarce. About $30 a pop.

I was told that one could modify 30-06 clips and they would work.

You should be able to get 30-06 stripper clips to work for 35 rem as the shell heads are similar size. Although I have not tried it myself.

Bob's Gun Shop has the stripper clips for the 35/300. IIRC, I paid about $30 for two of them. Not cheap, but they are original, unused, and they work well.
