I am interested in what the collective knowledge is on the Standard Arms Camp .50's. I realize they are not a semi-automatic but I note there has been some discussion of the Model M's.

I think they're fascinating. Love to see a picture of a real one. Also ammo.

Allegedly they made 25 camp guns, I have recorded serial numbers 17, 25 and 2392. My suspicion is 2392 was assembled from spare parts. I have not been able to confirm the serial numbers match on this gun either.Serial number 25 has all matching numbers but has a cast brass slide in staed of the wood slide advertised. The cartridge is in serious contention. I would like to see an original or even a casting. I was told by an individual that his father had a gun that he sold and that it took a 50 action express. I have not investigated the AE heritage. Conjecture is that it was a 50/70 as there was a lot of surplus forager cases available at about that time. I have to cartridges head stamped "Standard Arms" a 30 and a 35. I would really like to have a camp gun and a "standard arms" head stamp 25 and a 50. The serial number of your gun and pictures would greatly add to my research. I hope you got a real bargin. You are very Lucky

I am the purchaser of the one on gunsinternational. I should receive it in about a week and will be able to provide information. It appears a very needed task is to perform a chamber cast so the ongoing mystery of the cartridge can be cleared up, or at least progress made in that regard. I know of another Camp .50 and I have asked for the serial number. The owner confirms it has a serial number. I also know the barrel on that one is not marked CAMP .50. And, that one has a blued checkered steel forearm (not brass). I do know the one I bought recently has a four digit number in the 2xxx range.

Do the two digit serial number CAMP .50's have the same barrel marking as the later four digit serial number rifles?

By the way, I cannot imagine that the .50 Action Express is usable in a CAMP .50. It is a dramatically more modern, high pressure cartridge. It also has a rebated rim. I have a pistol in .50 AE and load for it. When my CAMP .50 arrives, I will drop a case in the chamber just out of curiosity. But, just because a cartridge for one firearm will fit into another - hardly means it is safe to fire.

You mention lots of bucks. Can you point me to one that I could purchase for a more favorable price?

That one (lots o' bucks) is the only one that I ever saw for sale. It's certainly a Seller's Market, but even so, that's a fair price for something so extraordinarily rare. I think Boltman made a good buy!

On that note, the rifle/shotgun arrived today. Very very nice condition. I was surprised with how petite and light it is. It handles and points extremely well.

It's a smooth bore, is it not?

Yes, it is a smooth bore. Also, I took it apart today and numbers match

I do have a vintage .50-70 shot cartridge on the way. It will be very interesting to see how it chambers. Also, the rifle has a rear swivel but the front swivel and dovetailed attachment is missing. Anyone here have a bead on one? Or even a picture of one? Here is a picture of what I am missing:

I have several guns that have sling swivels myself, but none seem to match. After a search of all of the literature that I have, I could not come up with any reference to Standard as offering them as an option, but who knows. If anyone has a reference to them offering sling swivels, I would be interested in obtaining a copy.

How much was the gun listed for? I am very interested in obtaining the serial number for my research. Thanks
