Okay, time to breath a little life into this thread again. I was just notified that my order for .025 4130 sheet steel is on its way from the metal supply outfit. I was contacted by another 1910 owner and he gave me a little momentum to pick this idea up again. I have experienced another episode of odd timing. I added a 1905 in .32WSL and a 1907 .351WSL last week and won a 10rd magazine for the 1907. Seeing that in place makes me want to do the same with the 1910. I will try to take a photo of the Self Loader family this weekend. I will try to document the construction of the magazine if I can remember to do it. This sounds like an interesting and most ambitious project. I am glad that you are still planning to do it. I shall look forward to your progress. I haven't chased down shooting ammunition for my M1910 yet, but if I decide to shoot it as opposed to just a collectable, I just might want a 10 round mag...... I don't know why Winchester didn't offer them. That would have made a most effective weapon, more so than the .351......

Thanks for the encouragement. I need to machine a mandrel to form the sheet steel around since I don't see a good way to form it on a brake. That would also allow me to tack it for TIG welding the seam. I want to use a similar follower with a roller to ensure smooth feeding. Tonight I am preoccupied draw filing and polishing my battered 1886 that I rescued. Please be patient as I will eventually get back on it.

If the 10 rd 401 mags get to the production stage, I would be interested in seeing how they turn out (ie: fit and function). An order would be dependent upon the price of the finished product.
Good Luck!

Pending the usual problems with posting any gun part out of the 'land of the free', I would be happy to buy two of your magazines.
P.S. That would be posted to New Zealand (not Dubai! ouch)
Cheers Wazza

Hey, I want one. Assuming a price around $100, a great addition to a special firearm. Let us know when you have some for sale.

I appreciate the interest that has slowly grown around this idea. I foresee that the most complicated (= expensive) part to reproduce will be the follower. It would be prudent to re-use the roller equipped follower and scalloped top to assure smooth movement in the magazine body. I haven't got a clue what they could possibly sell for, until I have made at least two. That is why I emphasized that I only was looking for a shared interest in the concept. If it takes several hours per magazine plus materials, equipment and electricity, then they could be prohibitively priced and only those that are not faint of heart or light of wallet would be a buyer. That is not my intent and I am not looking to produce these in quantity, if at all. Be patient with me, I tend to drift around various projects as time and enthusiasm present themselves. I do have the 4130 sheet on hand, so that is a start. I need to machine a forming mandrel for the body to create that first to make sure of fit into the receiver. With that behind me, I can move on to the follower to present the rounds in the magazine. Then I can worry about a magazine spring, welding everything up and putting a finish on it. All of this is assuming that it will feed at all. I don't mean to sound like a grump, (I can be, but not in this case) I only want people to understand that I won't know what I have gotten myself into until I have finished one and can look back at the wreckage behind me. A friend of mine and myself have been brainstorming some radical approaches to the problem of brass for the .32 and .351. They may be rather unorthodox, but may provide a much simpler and affordable source for the creative handloader. I haven't forgotten the 1910, but it is back in queue till later.

Rick, It is spooky how fast this year has gone. Realizing how this post started over a year ago was a bit rattling. I never mentioned the fact that I bought two magazines and parts from an auction some time back. One of the two magazines was in fairly poor condition and it needed a mainspring, so whenever I get a chance to sit down with it, I am considering sectioning the body and adding a mid-section to lengthen it. I will re-use the factory follower. I have decided to try and finish a couple of the big projects that require money and farming out for specilty work, such as color case hardening and having factory markings re-applied to a couple of my old Winchesters. As I have said before, please be patient with me since I bounce from project to project. Gunsmith ADD? As others have experienced, having a sickness, does not mean that one wishes for a cure. I wiil try to take a chance to sit down with the magazine and pursue a bit more progress after the holidays, unless the Mayans pegged it and we will all cease to exist here shortly. I would like to wish all of the forum members a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year!

For $100 or so I'll happily buy one of you 10 round magazines. It would be so tough.

If you did figure this magazine out. I'm interested. 8 to 10 of them. 10 rounders would be ok, 4 rounders is also ok... 15 rounders would be odd and neat, 25 rounders would be acceptable so I can shoot alongside my .224 Valkyrie. If they function correctly. You dont need to worry about bluing, or ribbing the sides... you can skip those steps for any that you'd consider doing for me. I'd rather be able to recognize a non original by sight. Of course, price is the main consideration, and since its around the last quarter of the year,(Christmas dude.. grandkids yada yada yada) and when my disability check gets in.
