I always clean my Model 8 after shooting. I use Hoppe's Elite and run patches through till they come out clean. I never cleaned for copper fouling until I read something about it a few weeks ago. I picked up some Sweets 7.62 solvent thinking I'm wasting my money. Boy was I wrong. I followed the instructions on the bottle and was surprised how much came out. The two on the bottom are the first two I ran through. All in all it took about half an hour to clean it, including cleaning out the Sweets and oiling it. I haven't had a chance to get to the range and see if the accuracy is better, but the rifling is definitely more pronounced now, so I'm sure it will be better. Now, how often should I clean it for copper fouling? Anyone?

I know the feeling.I just purchased my first Model 8 in .35 rem.She is a little rough but all the parts are there and the price was right. The bore came copper plated free of charge and after 102 years, needed a serious scrub.
I used 25 soaked patches of Montana X-treme Copper Killer(formerly .50 BMG) till it barely showed any more blue. The bore is bright and shiny with no visible pitting.
Still working on the rest of the rifle.Anything with a thread needs a soak in Kroil.
