After three more hours of scanning I finally got the album done last night, for hunting pictures anyway.
Only one of the pictures I pulled from the album had any description written on it, this fishing picture. I was hoping to find more than that but when over 50 pictures of Martins alone are located, I best not complain. Here are his fishing pictures.
And now back to buisness. ;D
This go round I am going to more or less let the pics speak for them self unless I know some details. Hope you enjoy.
This must have been his most productive trapping cabin, it was pictured more than the others. In the other thread there were two pictures of this one covered with hides also.
Fox
Use caution when approaching these ones. lol
Ways nature says leave me alone. Wildcat (Bobcat).
Lynx
In his Journal, Martin would use his Model 8 as a measuring device to determine the size of the animal, or even the length of stride they took in the snow.
These cabin pics remind me on a favorite tune Gene Autry did.
That silver-haired daddy of mine.
In a vine-covered shack in the mountains,
bravely fighting the battle of time
is a dear one who's weathered life sorrows,
tis that silver-haired daddy of mine.
If I could recall all the heartaches,
dear old Daddy, I've caused you to bear,
if I could erase those lines from your face
and bring back the gold to your hair.
If God would but grant me the power
just to turn back the pages of time,
I'd give all I own if I could but atone
to that silver-haired daddy of mine.
Oh, I know it's too late, dear old Daddy
to repay all those sorrows and cares,
though dear Mother is waiting in heaven
just to comfort and solace you there.
If I could recall all the heartaches,
dear old Daddy, I've caused you to bear,
if I could erase those lines from your face
and bring back the gold to your hair,
if God would but grant me the power
just to turn back the pages of time,
I'd give all I own if I could but atone
to that silver-haired daddy of mine.
I'd give all I own if I could but atone
to that silver-haired daddy of mine.

Martin had in his notes that he had sold many of his guns before moving to Alberta, even some through the Hunter-Trader-Trapper magazine of which he did some articles. He had some of his pictures in there too. I am going to look through the few copies of his that I have and see if i can find anything he wrote. He had details of the issues he wrote in as well as one issue with 25 Remington load details.
He is on the right here, with his Winchester in pre model 8 days. I believe the rifle is an 1892, could be his 40-60 or the 32-40. He had one of each as well as a 50 Sharps!
This picture I think is up by Abraham Lake if it was even a lake back then, the mountain profile is quite unique. For what ever reason they are butchering two Bison here. You will see my Great Uncle Reuben in the back grund by the car in each pic, standing with his Dad. He has the light colored "poor boy" hat.
New neighbors in Bergen.
Martin this moose with his 8 .
This must be his Dog from back home.
To me, this man was as great example of what a hunter should be. A neighbor and friend to all he knew, always willing to help. He showed respect to nature and didn't use any extra. And best of all he was always happy to teach a kid the ropes. The world will be a better place when the rest of us learn to follow suit.
I dedicate all this work to the memory of our Families, and the settlers who broke trail for us all. What an honor it has been to pass this along. I hope you have enjoyed the pictures and stories as much as I have sharing them. My wife will be very happy to know I am done. ;D
