Here is a rare Holek Automat sporting rifle for sale at Cabela's. ONLY $2800! This says it was made in the late 1930s, but I always read the Holek Automat was made in Czechoslovakia right after WWII and just before the Commies took over in the late 40s. www.cabelas.com/gun-inventory---hamburg---fine-rifle---1161824-hap-ham.shtmlHere are some other pictures of Holek Automat sporting rifles. This one is in 7x57 and has a scope. Attachments:

I recently found one for sale in 8x57 for $2900. Been looking for info on these without much luck - except for a couple of auctions (above pics taken from them).
If I'm correct the vast majority were in 8x57 - with a few examples in 7x57 and .276 Pederson (wierd cartridge for a sporting arm).
Some have two piece stocks, but most dont. Anyone know if all originally came with a 2-piece but that the fromt section was usually lost over time???
Cant find any info on operating system? Cant find disassembly instructions? Cant find any info on strengths/weaknesses? Cant find any production numbers?
Anyone able to tell me about these???

Welcome to the forum tomm! I wish I could tell you more about the Holek Automat, and answer at least one of your questions...but I think we're all about the same place when it comes to researching this fascinating firearm...i.e. at the beginning. Please share with us what you find out more about the Holek.

Have finally found a reference source on these - the German DWJ. Nice 8 pg spread - probably 4-5 pages of text.
Unfortunately my 1 year of German, 25 years back, is good for little other than ordering a beer or geting my face slapped.
If anyone would care for it - let me know. If you would be willing to translate a page for me - I would be quite happy. Want to read it over the phone to me - more than good enough?
Anyone got a kid in school learning German - good training.

Oh - yeah. The info I have is that the rifle was made from 1939 to 1944. Amazing that production was allowed during war time in an occuppied country.

Interesting rifle. I do love the 7x57 cartridge. It is one of my favorite hunting rounds. This gun was made for a prince, I have pictures. There was also a custom rifle made for the President of Yugoslavia in exchange for a car for the founder's daughter Eva.
