My 25 Rem in a model 8 was missing the butt plate when I got it. I found a replacement, but discovered someone had sanded the top, leaving the plate just under 1/8th inch taller than the stock. I have mulled over what to do about it, but decided that when in doubt, leave it alone. I am now considering a replacement from Bob's gun shop. I held off before because my rifle has the steel crescent buttplate, and his stock appears to take the older style plastic looking plate. When I asked him if it could be modified to fit my plate, he blew me off in emails and when I complained of a lack of clarification for exactly which butt plate his stock required, he got really nasty and told me he was the only one making a stock at all for this, and if I wanted one, I could take my business elsewhere. I saw someone is offering a reproduction buutplate of the plastic type so I am seriously considering puting this combo on my rifle and of course keeping the original as well. Anyone here ever use one of his replacement stocks?

Kirk, I have not tried his stocks but for what its worth I found a decent repro butt plate maker in North Carolina. He is the fastest at getting an order out the door you will find if you want one for your stock. www.gungrip.com/I have gotten three from him so far. Fox Sterlingtworth, Remington 12 and a Remington 8. I had a very poor experience with Great American Gunstock in California too in case you are considering going to them. Have you tried gunstocksinc.com? They are great.
