Not sure if this quaifies as a sporting rifle I thought I would work over a russian SKS into a nice sporting carbine .I added a hole into the gas tube to have it eject only 5 to 6 feet to my right ,then reworked the extractor and ejector to toss to the right level instead of high to make it easier on the scope .Also cut barrel to 19" to get rid of the sight and bayo mounts and profiled it. Then went shopping for a stock ,scope mount and mag adaptor to use LAR mags for easier changing .It was a bit of milling to get the mags to work in the rifle as in Canada we can't modify mags ,silly laws .Bedded the action to the stock to get rid of the back and forth motion that the sks is known for .I loaded up some Lapua brass with some 123 gr tsx and got it to group just under an inch at 100yards and it doesn't mess up the spent cases and easy to find . here are some pics

It is fun to shoot ,a bit more to take apart for cleaning than I would like if I was to use surplus /corrosive ammo .But for a truck carbine it is good enough .Not too much work to do it with all the stuff out there for them ,kinda like decorating a cake .The only machineing is cutting down the barrel and milling out the receiver for the lar mag to fit in.
I picked up another one and am going to rebarrel to 223 and just it in the same stock and optic .Have to make some 22 barrels any how .Should also be a fun shooter
cheers Peter
