So I am now the proud owner of a Model 14 in 30 Rem. I cleaned all the old grease, bird nests and dead rats out of the action. The last 6" of the magazine tube was very rusted under the forearm wood, also very rough with not just pits but raised chips that had to be smoothed down with a file. I mention this in case it has a bearing on my question. When working the pump, everything is smooth until the last 1/4". Then it seems like I must use excessive force to finish, there is a little click, and I can bring the forearm to the front smoothly. When working the action quickly, momentum works fine. Is there a broken spring, did I reassemble wrong, is this just the nature of the beast?
In my search for 30 rem brass at the gunshow I picked up some 32rem unfired. 19 rem-umc, 1 peters and 2 super-x with a silver tip. Normal brass dirt but no green corrosion. If anyone needs them I will pull the bullets with a RCBS hammer puller and ship brass and bullets in trade for 30rem brass. If not I will just size them down and load them up.

Update. When I finally got around to removing the stock, there was a lot of crud in the recess that the lever on the back of the bolt goes into. Much better now.

Thanks for the update, it's always good to have a repository of knowledge like this for others to refer to in the future. I'm sure someone else will have the same issue and find this information useful.
