Well, here we go again with another project. Hopefully this one will progress faster than some of the many cooking on the back burner. As some of you know,I wound up with a severe case of Self-Loaderitis, which has resulted in multiple growths to the inner walls of my safe. Thinking myself free of the illness after beginning the last treatment (which consisted of starting the !@#$% waiting period) for my Winchester 1905 Self Loader in .35 cal. I was subsequently afflicted with a low caliber flare up, when one of the local shops had a 1903 Winchester and offered it to me for a criminally small amount. It is now at home with me and I have completely disassembled it and removed the barrel. I currently am trying to determine the best way to alter the breech block to center-fire. The odd shape of the firing pin and the counterweight extension have thwarted my original ideas to relocate the pin to the center. It looks as if I will be best suited if I fill the area with a steel pin and a plug, drill a new hole from the rear and fabricate a one-off firing pin. I have been very surprised that no one has attempted this in recent times and it was refreshing to see the thread on the Tirmax rifle. I will try to be mindful and take photos as I go, so that there is a visual record of what I do.

Breech block is now altered. I drilled an offset hole in a piece of drill rod and tinned it and the hole in the breechblock, heated them and pressed it into place. Feeling lazy and creative I heated the original firing pin and forged it into a different shape, rather than machining an entirely new pin. It is assembled and moving freely. Now it is time to get of my rear end and order a barrel blank with a .251 groove depth. I will hopefully get that ordered before the end of the year:) After that, if anyone needs a replacement 1903 barrel, it will be fair game. Sometimes it is frustrating how stuff goes on the back burner and then when I approach it later, it goes quickly enough that I wonder why I didn't do it sooner. Oh well, at least it is progress.

Here are some of the photos, sorry that I dont have the one with the through hole drilled. This was what I started with. I will try to take a picture of the completed breech with the hole and firing pin. Mark
