Had to disassemble my 07.Bought it cheap, but it had a broken firing pin. Soaked the bolt with KROIL,drove retaining pin out ok. Replaced firing pin, then the fun began. Clamped the forward end of bolt/slide in vise with lead jaws with barrel on bottom, bolt to rear. After several fails trying to feed the recoil spring in ,my son came out to shop to lend a hand. We looked at it and decided that I would push spring in using the flat of two screwdrivers while son would push the recoil spring guide rod in a bit at a time. First we wedged the buffer washer in place. Then I would push a little, son would feed the guide rod in to prevent spring from popping out. One fail, then we got it in on second try ! Only cut myself once ! deep one on pinky finger, didn't know till I saw blood. This was a design flaw of otherwise good idea.Do not fully disassemble the Winchester SLRs unless you really really have to. Keep band aids on hand. Now,off to the range to shoot the rifle !

Great trick ! Salty old guy. A work bench and padded vise would help a little.
