Here's another Tirmax. Looks like someone stuck a pistol magazine in it.

Hardrada55, or anyone else with the knowledge. Where can I find some info on a Tirmax. I believe I just purchased the one pictured directly above off of the latest RIA auction. I wanted the pistol gripped Mod 8 it was paired with as those old 8's with the rounded knob pistol grip are my favorites. Plus, this one had great looking wood. Either way, the Tirmax is just an extra, I have no interest other than to sell it for what it is worth on the open market. But I need some info on it first and can't find anything, anywhere. Plus, it looks like I'll need to find a clip for it if possible as the one that it is pictured with can't be original. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Pete.

Holy smokes, if it sells for that I'm putting my Tirmax on that website. Actually I have tried to gain access to that site and I can't. I would like to contact the owner to see if he has any info or parts or even a possibility if a supply for parts. The one I own is the one pictured above with the longer clip. The clip is non-original as is the tang screw. I would like to fix it up before selling as it would obviously be worth more that way. I have a feeling that finding parts will be near impossible but it's worth a shot. The gun functions with the clip that is in there, but will not fire Fiochi ammo. It dents the primer pretty deeply but after about 6 different shells I gave up. I found some Remington ammo but have not had time to test fire it again. Perhaps the remington ammo will have a softer primer. I'll keep this post updated as I get some more info and have time to take pics.

My Tirmax lives!!!! Rifle would only dent the Remington ammo also. After much cussing and numorous hours at my bench staring at small parts and more than one test run followed by another teardown and much more cussing, I finally made some progress. Had some great help from fellow gun owner over in Germany and some dumb luck at the same time. It turns out that the main action spring was to short by maybe 1/16 of an inch. But the design allowed me to shim the spring forward so it would stop popping out of the notch in the hammer. The spring was obviously a replacement, but I took it for granted that it was correct. It wasn't, and needed to be shimmed and some of the butt stock had to be relieved on the inside to allow the spring full movement. Then, the external thingying piece had to be replaced as it had started to crack. Luckily, I have a buddy that works for beer and cigarettes, and a new piece was machined and blued. Now I have a Tirmax that will run all 8 shots thru that replacement mag that came with the gun. On occasion I have a failure to feed, but that is due the magazine not being correct to the gun. Someone had spent some serious time with this piece before I bought it, but I think they gave up trying to make it all work. The mag is a pistol mag that has been modified to work in the Tirmax's action, but it's not quite right. I have a lead on a mag that appears to be the correct one for the gun, just haven't got the dimensions from the owner yet. The tang screw was not correct either, but I shortened it, rifle bored it and tapped it so that I now have a bolt head on both the top and bottom tang. It looks good and is functional, but I have no way of knowing whether it is actually correct. It's now similar to the way Stevens put their Visible Loader's action together. Now I just need to figure out what it is worth.

You swine! I am insane with jealousy. You must sell it to me immediately for only $300!
No..., all kidding aside. Welcome to the forum, Kurtwist. There are bargains to be found out there if you are a smart buyer, as you obviously were. Please tell us about your Tirmax. We would love to see pictures.

Sorry it took so long to reply...I'll send some pictures when I dig it out of the safe. I like to think of the Tirmax as the rifle component of an Old West type combo. Instead of a Winchester 92 and a Colt SAA in 38-40 I'll carry a Tirmax and a Mauser Hsc...both .32 acp!

Supposedly they also came chambered for the .380 acp cartridge, also known as the "9mm short". You have not happened across a Tirmax in .380 by any chance? All I have ever heard about were chambered in 7.65 Browning. Can not wait to see yours. Best Wishes....

Yes, please post some pics if you don't mind. Especially of the mag as I am still trying to find one for mine. I also sent you a PM, let me know if you received it. My lead on a possible mag that would fit turned out to be a pipe dream. Now I have a mag that fits but is not a right and another mag that doesn't fit and I have no idea what it actually goes to. Neither did the guy I bought it from. Kind of funny, but it cost me $'s and time to no avail.
