Was over visiting with Jimmy again, had a great time as always. Best part of all he was remembering info from his pictures that he didn't before.
I asked him if he had a chance to go through the attic for his Dad's pictures but he still hasn't. I might go do it myself! LOL Especially after his wife wandered into the front room and came back with another black photo album. She had no idea where it came from but said maybe something would be of interest.
The first picture my mouth dropped open, there was Martin Arneson's parents! His Dad passed away before he moved up here in 1911, these were older than stink! I'll feed them to you slow. It would be sensory overload to post them all at the same time and I don't want you guys loosing all control. It is without a doubt the goldmine for a lover of the model 8.
Martin turned out to be quite the photographer and his 25 Rem was the favorite subject throughout. Lots of pics here are not of it but too bad. Deal with it this is my thread. ;D I know you will love it just the same.
I was trying to figure out when these were taken. When I came across the newspaper with this Otter/Fisher?? I turned super slueth and scanned the pic, zeroing in on the newspaper date. Looks like March 4, 1912 to me but hard to tell. That fits with the year after he bought his rifle and the year after it was built.
The rifle looks much newer here, and is already fit with the Marbles Tang and Sheard sight. Also note the shoe string rifle sling tied around the barrel and pistol grip area. I bet that dug in!
Here are the boys along the Red Deer River at Martin's cabin.
Gent on the left I do not know yet but Martin in the doorway and John (Jimmy's Dad) on the right. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think John's rifle and the newcomer's are both 81's. This is of course much later in Alberta, I guess that gives you a bit of an idea. Martin was born in 1881 so he has to be in his mid 40's here putting us in the mid 20s early 30's maybe.
This one could be a new favorite. That dark fox would have been amazing to see.
Wolf!!!!!!!
The "good ol days".
I think I might have the bear trap that is on the right side of the door here but I cannot be sure. This one might be a bit bigger...
At any rate I imagine your mouths are hanging wide open looking at this one. If not you have died and gone to heaven. ;D
These go back to Wisconsin days again. Martin and his brother Carl must have belonged to a couple shooting clubs going by these pics. That is Carl in the back row, third in from the right.
Note the two 8's and an 81 front and center.
Can't tell if this is the same crowd or not. Carl is kneeling in front on the right with white suspenders. Cannot tell what he has in his mitt. I think there are as many as four 8's here, hard to tell.
Carl has the white band on his hat in this pic. Could be another Arneson on the far left corner. Happy bunch.
Let me know if this is hard for you guys to load up. Maybe I should be loading an album and pasting the address for you to follow. I am used to doing it this way but who knows there might be a better way and yet still add the background stories in too.
Might get the rest in tomorrow night.
Hope you enjoyed the first segment.
