Thanks rmh, do you happen to know if these are the same shiny plastic product that Numrich sell? I got a couple of these in for my shotguns and I'm not sure I can bring myself to use them...

Hi, I would not doubt that these reproduction buttplates are the same shiny plastic material. Probably only one company making the reproductions. Here's an absolute guess, but you might try to reduce the shine by tumbling with material that won't scratch (not too coarse). Might have the same effect as "bead-blasting" for a matte surface finish.

Good call RMH. I'll sure give that a try and then report back. An old codger I was talking to recently suggested forming the missing piece with tape and then filling the gap with tinted araldite (a proprietry two part adhesive that I don't know if you can get elsewhere in the world) Thus restoring the original. Good idea, I wonder if it would stick to the stock terminally? I wonder if oiling it first would prevent such a tragedy...
