Ok so I need a life and I might be just a touch over the line regarding trivia and details but, a question for the history buffs: I don’t consider Time-Life to be the authority that they think they are – seems they are more often the “National Observer” with gory pictures and headlines vs. history! But, I was given a book from the Time-Life Series, Old West - “ The Gunfighters”. In the book, they mention that during the Sept. 7, 1876 James Gang raid and robbery of the Northfield, MN bank and subsequent destruction of the gang, the Northfield Hardware store owner, A E. Manning, stationed himself on a stairs and was shooting the gang “as cool as though he was picking off a squirrel” using a Remington Repeating rifle. According to what I have been able to find so far, the 1879 Lee bolt action w/ magazine became the Remington-Lee 1882 and was not delivered to the Navy until Jan. 1882, the Keene repeater was not delivered until 1889, and prior to that there were only single shots - using the info on the the Remington History page: books.google.com/books?id=jAmkAvoUKIEC&pg=PA74&lpg=PA74&dq=remington+121+routledge&source=web&ots=44SMtlXyWQ&sig=2489Qkbm6yJg3fQLBr0b_cFG2J8&hl=en&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=8&ct=result#PPA59,M1 So, did I miss something? Or did the book blow it, (pg. 79)? And his rifle was really a Winchester, 1873? Or was there a Remington Repeater in 1876? And if so what model, cal. etc.?

Remington did make a revolving rifle in the black powder days. I do not know much about it. Uberti makes a replica of a Cap and Ball remington revolving rifle.

$4,700 and the cylinder won't even lock up!!! Think they'll take cash? - that I don't have or ever will for something like that. Gotta work even if I'm putting down $4.70 (skipping all the zero's!) I maybe a Remington and old gun fan but there is a limit.

The Remington Revolving Rifle was made from about 1866 to 1879, with a total of less than 1,000 produced. The frame was based on Remington's New Model revolver, but with a cylinder measuring an additional 3/16" in length, and an extra length loading lever. They were available in either .36 or .44 caliber. There were factory conversions made to fire metallic cartridges, in .38 rimfire. A conversion to .46 rimfire has been rumored, but is not currently known to exist.
