First post here though I've been reading here for a little while. I picked up a mis-matched 1907 at the Collectors show in Denver last month. Cracked fore/butt stock, no butt plate or magazine. But it is otherwise all there and it was only $100 and in firing condition. Although I am going to repair the existing stocks, I am currently working on fitting/shaping a semi-inlet stock from Macon Gunstocks. What I need to confirm is the actual length of pull for the butt stock and dimensions for the butt plate. The butt stock came about 3" long. I could just make it the same length as the cracked stock I have. But being it didn't have a butt plate I don't know if it had been cut or not. In reality I will probably set the length to what fits me best. I just want to know what it would have come with. The stocks i received from Macon were nicer than I had expected. Being the trigger guard serial number doesn't match the receiver serial number I am likely to rust blue this one. There isn't any blue left on this one but there is no pitting on the metal. Received a 5 round magazine from Classic yesterday and I'll have some Jamison loaded ammo on Monday. I'm kinda pumped about this project. Though I'm not looking forward to removing the bolt again so I can fit the fore stock. I've already replaced the buffer. Attachments:

hi ,if you are going to keep it your best bet is to fit the new wood to yourself ,with the layers of clothing you plan to wear when hunting with it .If its going to be just a sunday shooter then make the wood to the original length Cheers Peter

Thanks Peter. I will keep this one and will likely cut it to fit me. Or possibly my youngest daughter. The reason I asked the length of pull is to see if my old butt stock is the correct length and thus the correct sized butt plate. I need to order a replacement but the same style is available in at least two sizes. A straight measurement of a butt plate would work too.
This rifle is a mixmaster believe it or not. The barrelled action is serial numbered to 1926 while the trigger guard is serial numbered to 1917. So after fitting/shaping the stock I'm likely to re-blue it with a rust blue.
Thanks.

Hi John I measured up 5 wsl rifles and they appear to be 14 inches from behind the trigger guard to the outside of the butt plate on the toe (bottom ) .The winchester butt plate is the small sized on as the large is too big and doesnt look correct when ground down.
The measurement is taken off ones with their original plate .Also these rifles have the pistol grip stocks like the one you pictured .
I cerecoted a few of these rifles that were heavily pitted .After draw filing to remove the pitting I had one reblued and it looked wrong as a lot of the details were removed. Then went and had it cerecoted and now looks great in socom blue and more matt finish
hope this helps Peter

Thanks Peter. That helps a lot. I will get the smaller one on the way. I can't shape the butt stock without it. But I have a lot of fitting to do first.
Interesting comment about the blue. I'll reconsider my plan on blueing it. Mine may be a different case though. There is no pitting I can see on this rifle. So there would be no need to file it. Prep surface, yes. I have an 1863 repro cap & ball revolver I bought specifically for the purpose of trying my hand at a rust blue. I would test that first just to see if I could do it without damaging anything.

Here is a picture next to my Model 8. Both in 35. Lots of stock damage. The red lines represent cracks in the butt stock. No need for red on the fore stock.

I'm currently fitting new wood to this rifle. Decent stuff from Macon Gunstocks.

I have purchased numerous sets from Macon for the wsl rifles 1905/1907/1910/1911 .Some of them were a little less inletted and were still easy enough to fit .I found them easy to deal with and the wood is decent quality . On the forend I leave them a bit fatter than the original profile and they still look good .I have a pic of a restocke one in another thread ,I may repost it Cheers Peter

That is very nice work Peter. I'm thinking of leaving the fore stock as fat as I can on the outside. It might feel a little odd in the hand but I'm hoping it will add strength. I'm going slow on the butt stock right now. Work is real busy. I bought 40 rounds of the Jamison ammunition and fired 30 yesterday. Other than the atrocious trigger pull it never even baubled. It is painful to try to pull the trigger with the pad of the trigger finger. I had to pull it with the first joint of the trigger finger. Is there anything that van be done to bring the trigger pull weight weight closer to the normal range? I think 10 #'s would be a great improvement. The Jamison ammo functioned well. It has an advertised 1400 fps velocity with the 180 grain JSP. This is around 400 FPS less than the original ammunition. All of the fired brass had soot from the brass not fully expanding. But I'm happy with the results. When I get back to Arizona I'll begin developing a load that increases speed just enough to fully expand the brass. This is rested at 50 yards using the standard iron sights. Attachments:

Yeah. PB wants to charge for 3rd party hosting. I know of some people that have thousands of photographs in posts that go back years. It would take months to re-link the photos from another hosting company.
I gave up on the free hosting a while ago. If I can't post directly to the forum I just do without photos. The only forum I'm a part of that doesn't allow for some type of direct posting is the CMP forum.

I just deleted my PB account and started at IMGUR instead.
Really like what you are doing to that 1907

Sorry it took so long to reply. The thread went dark for so long I stopped looking for a reply.
Thanks for the compliment. I haven't been able to work on the 1907 for weeks. It shoots great. I just need to finish the stock and reblue it. I'd love to take it to deer camp in November.

It is possible that this mismatched gun is from a leo/prison gun. Sometimes when cleaning they got the upper & lower mixed up.

not sure why a mixup would take place .I do have parts guns and have made up 1907 rifles from 2or3 guns to make up operational rifles with little fitting
