l Just wondering if the Winchester Model 63 and Remington Nylon series of self loading .22 rifles are considered to be vintage?I expect they are,but just wanted to get others views on the subject.

I do consider the 63 to be vintage. Think mine was made late 40's but not absolutely sure. I just went through mine and replaced the recoil and charge springs with a kit from Wolf. Nice they are still available. The 63 is identical in almost every way to the 1907 externally and internally except for the loading / magazine mechanism. Mine was pretty gummed up from years of WD40 and a mosquito repellent that my father and grandfather had used while squirrel and snake hunting in the Arkansas swamps. Once I got the crud off of it, it looks really nice. They are some fine shooting little rifles!! I Need to learn how to post some pictures.

At one time I had an almost mint Model 63.For some unknown reason, the rifle used to jam a lot. Most likely ,thinking back .it might just have been dirty.Although looking in the ejection port ,it seemed clean enough at the time.

My Dad loved these rifles. He grew up on a rice farm in NE Arkansas and a .22 rifle was always in his hand or close by. I have several of the .22 rifles that he carried, but he always told me he liked the 63 best. The one I currently own is original and about 85%. An almost mint one would be a true find these days. Mine is not grooved for scope, and the barrel has not been cut, which is one thing I have seen frequently while looking at older 63's. I thought about buying one of the Japan guns that were a limited run just for fun or maybe even the Taurus knock-off, but reviews have been mixed on the Taurus, and the Japan Winchesters are still pretty high when you find them.

Afraid posting pictures is way past my computer skills.:)Best I could do, is take the picture. I see the fellow I sold my Model 63 to,from time to time at gun shows.Next time I see him I must ask him if he still has the rifle.

Well picked up Model 63 rifle ,in pretty good condition. Some bluing loss on the barrel and at some point, for some reason, someone cleaned off the finish on the forend.Quite a lot of finish still on the stock.
Cleaned the rifle. Not really dirty, but old oil hardened a bit.Probably not shot for a long time.Just waiting now, to get a chance to take it to the range to give it a test shooting.

Had the Model 63 to the range this afternoon.Fired probably over 250 cartridges through it.Fun rifle to shoot.Had three spent cases jam in the ejection port after firing. One Super-X,one Blaser and one Federal.the rifle did not like Imperial ammunition at all.
Always had good results with Imperial before, but today the Imperial cartridges caused trouble in all three .22 rifles in use.The Winchester Model 63,Browning SA and Browning Trombone.Perhaps a bad lot of cartridges?

Just wondering how often do others clean their Model 63 rifles? The time before last ,that I took mine to the range ,I fired about 250 rounds through it ,before it started to give trouble. The next time I took it to the range ,it started to have loading trouble after about 150 rounds.
When taken apart it was very dirty both times.Shot a lot of Winchester ammunition out of it.The Winchester 22 ammunition seems quite dirty burning to me.How often do others, using other brands of ammunition, have to clean their rifles for good operation?Perhaps other brands of 22 ammunition burn cleaner,so the rifle would not have to be cleaned as often?

I never had a problem with my 63. I don't think I have ever cleaned it since I bought it in 76. I used CCI, Federal bulk, but mostly Stingers. I had a nylon 66 that I shot for several decades & I never had any problems with it, but decided to clean it one day. It was a horrible mess, but she never missed a beat.

Seems my Model 63 needs to be cleaned every 200 or 250 rounds ,or it starts to act up.
