Ha I want the magazine he has there. It's probably worth more than the rifle.

I have read the book before, they mention the 1907 only once. The sheriff injured his hand in a gunfight, he swapped to the self loader because it was easier to operate.

Just picked up a magazine at the local Tractor Supply called "Cowboys and Indians" it is the April edition. The cover story is the series "The Son". Good reading and a lot of good pictures inside. I'm counting down to the April 8 release. It says there will be 10 episodes this season, with possibly 5 seasons. There are good interviews with Philipp Meyer about how the series will differ from the book. Also, would like to know if any of you have watched a 1962 western named "Ride the High Country"? My dad was telling me about it. He said it really had some neat lever rifles and also some semiauto's in it, but he wasn't sure what they were. I'm gonna try to find it.

Saw an ad on the television today for the series. The fellow was holding what appeared to be, a Winchester Model 07 with a ten shot magazine.
Have seen the move,"Ride the High Country".There is a Remington Model 8 in use in the film.Seems to me, it comes into use in the last half of the movie.

Should be interesting. He also appears to use a pre-1911 colt semi-auto as well.
Warren Oates carries a model 8 in Ride the High Country. It is used about half way through and is fun to watch.

Well ole Pierce got to shoot his 1907 in anger in the last episode dealing with Mexican bandits/revolutionaries crossing the border in 1915. Pretty cool.

For someone who lived with the Indians when he was 13, Ol' Eli, at close to 79 years old, seems to be pretty non-traditional when it comes to weaponry (a semiautomatic Winchester and a 1911). His son is a more traditional "cowboy" than Eli is and his son's choice of shootin' irons seems to bear that out (lever action and Colt SAA).

That's an interesting point. And it is a 1911, isn't it? I was hoping for a 38 acp but the last episode shows clearly that it is a 1911. The last episode also showed additional use of the 1907 by Eli and another used by his ranch hand. Although the ranch hand shot it left handed. It's either cycling blanks or they added the cycling of the action through the miracle of computers.

Thanks Peter and where on earth do you live? The mag restrictions are unbelievable!
My rifle was made in 1908. I'll have to see about better photos this coming weekend.

Live in British Columbia Canada .The Rcmp just made any 10-22 ruger mag holding more than 10 rounds a prohib device because Ruger makes a Charger hangun based off the 10-22 so all ruger 10-22 can no longer use the larger cap 25/30/50 and gsg 110 unless they are pinned to 10 .Federal liberal gov is playing games again
