was at a gunshow in central BC and found an 81 in ok grubby condition .the 81 is in 300 savage ,the butt is cut down with a dried out 1' ish dead rubber pad quite dirty and the trigger cut down for some reason .
Gave the butt to a friend to replace the pad as he is a stock maker and will do a way better job than me (grind to fit). Then cut off the rest of the trigger and silver soldered a mauser hoop on and cleaned the rifle completely .There seems to be aprox 80% + remaining blueing and the innerads look great.Made up some stripper clips from SKS strippers and seem to work as anticipated.Bore is bright and shiny with no defects .
So my take on it is that it was used for a while then oiled and forgotten in a dry corner for years .will post some pics once I pick up the stock and reinstall it.Paid $300 cdn for it plus the new pad
This is my first very own model 81 I had the pleasure to work on .....not someone elses :)for a change

Shoot! I like the wood. Nice figure. I think the blue is alot more than 80%. Very pleasing appearance, how does she shoot?

was out with it today ,mostly just for kicks hung clay birds on a tree 90 yards and killed all 4 and the rifle ran great .It has a different recoil feel not sure how to describe it but not the same as the newer rem semi in 308 .Also found a hand full of stripper clips that work perfect for the 300 savage ,not sure what they are from
