It seems that 7.62x39 is used to easily make .401 WSL cartridges. Has anyone thought of taking a 7.62x39 chambered rifle and to re-chamber it to .401? How about an AK-47 in .401WSL? Or an SKS, or a Mini-14 in .401. Would it be a likely and feasible modification? Your thoughts?

there would be the mag issue as I tried the mini 30 mag and it swells the front and is difficult to install ,would have to figure out a single stack using a 1910 mag inside the ruger outer shell.I think there would be enough gas to run the system and may try a little slower powder .A mini 30 conversion would be at least 2-3 pounds lighter than a 1910 and handier to wield with a folder stock.
I think it is an interesting idea that should be close to the 458 socom in capabilities as the 401 is not a slouch .If one uses a 405 win barrel blank .408 you could use the 410 dia bullets and I think if the taper is left on the x39 case you could chamber with a 7.62x39 reamer with a 408 pilot and it would help keep the head space in check.
It would not be a real 401 ,but modified a bit to keep it safer .
Just my thoughts on the idea based on some earlier pondering which may or may not be correct
cheers Peter
